EAST LIVERPOOL -- A frigid morning marked the dawn of a new beginning for the former East Liverpool Christian School as the doors of the new "American Spirit Academy" opened last month.
On Monday, Jan. 29, ASA family and friends gathered to dedicate the new high school facility located on the first floor of the American Spirit Initiative building at 114 West 5th Street downtown.
High School Principal and Administrator, Jeff Nutter, provided the opening remarks. Dr. Ted Hill and Becky Mackey followed offering prayers on behalf of the school board and student body. The audience then was ushered outside as Craig Newbold, president/CEO of the American Spirit Initiative, and teacher, David Chafins, "staked a claim" to the property by literally driving a stake in the ground. Tim Ginter concluded the ceremony by anointing the building.
Following the dedication service, students and staff flowed back into the building, eagerly awaiting their first day in their new home. Although the date has yet to be announced, the ASA plans to hold a public open-house sometime this spring.
