Gmail Transition: Seamless

By Melody Gustafson
EAST LIVERPOOL -- Students and part-time faculty members at every KSU campus will experience a transition from their Kent accounts to Google Email during the winter break, according to a recent flashline announcement.

"It will look different to you," said Denise Fitzpatrick, computer lab technician, "but the transition will be seamless."

Fitzpatrick explained that the decision was made because the Kent accounts only had a limiting 15 megabites available that fills up very quickly, resulting in clogged mailboxes . This will not happen with the Google accounts.

All accounts are slated for the Gmail changeover between Dec. 20 and Jan. 3.

Because so many people prefer the Google format anyhow, they may want to activate immediately. To activate, one goes to http://google.kent.edu/ , enters the flashline I.D., which is the email address without the "kent.edu" and the password.

Addresses will not change, but those who have forwarded mail links will have to re-establish them after the transition, said Fitzpatrick. The "kent .edu" domains will not change; clicking on the Gmail icon in flashline will automatically connect.
