SALEM -- Communications officer Bri Paumier sat down with Eastern Flash to discuss the activities of the Student Government Organization (SGO) in November.
"We wanted to have two outreach programs for the fall, especially with the state of the economy right now. We realize there are a lot of people in this area in need."
Students may have noticed bins around the building to stockpile canned foods, and new or gently used coats, hats, gloves, and scarfs. The nonperishable food went to The First Christian Church in Salem for Thanksgiving while the winter clothing will go to the Community Action Agency after an ample pile accumulates.
The SGO has been selling pepperoni rolls from Mary's Pizza in Lisbon for $2.00 on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. This delicious, hot food will only be available until the end of the semester.
According to Paumier, profits will help fund a spring-break trip for the SGO and help perpetuate fundraising efforts for the spring term.
The group has been considering offering another kind of emergency response training called Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) that is similar to the Community Emergency Response Training (CERT), but is "more in-depth." Anyone interested in learing more about this training should contact Brad Heckathorn at bheckath@kent.edu.
