University District 1876
It appears that only one building has survived the 132 years since this photo was taken--the Thompson House (labeled). The Potters National Bank (Smith Auto) was yet to be built, and Union Street, now just a small dead-end alley, went all the way to the river. In 1876 a home was under construction on the site of what is now Kent State East Liverpool's Main building. This photo makes it clear just how much of the old city was destroyed by the recent construction of the state Route 39/U.S. Route 30 highway. Click to enlarge.
