Student government registration begins

by Melody Gustafson
SALEM – Spring is just around the corner and now is the time to pick up a nomination form from the reception desk to register to run for student office.

Students with a GPA of at least 2.25 that are registered for Salem classes this term may run for president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer, historian, or communications officer.

According to President Lucian Clewell, the communications officer is in charge of getting word out to members of clubs and senate, and the historian assists the communications officer by keeping hard copies all correspondence, including the secretary’s minutes.

The person elected to the position of president receives a $1000 scholarship from KSU that will be applied directly through the financial aid office. This year, however, thanks to the efforts of the current administration, every individual elected to one of the other five positions will receive a $250 voucher for the Salem Campus Bookstore to use for any purchase.

The deadline to enter completed forms is March 14. The candidate orientation meeting will be March 25 at noon in room #310. The very next day begins the campaign period and it will last until April 16 and 17 when the elections are held all day at the reception desk.

Clewell mentioned that the weekly meetings are open to all students and occur at noon on Tuesdays, in room #310.
