The Academic Success Center

by Melody Gustafson
EAST LIVERPOOL – Students who need extra help mastering their subjects can get it in the Academic Success Center from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

Although math and writing are the major subjects that trigger a need, chemistry has also sent nursing students to look for support. Last semester, Success Center adviser Dave Guy has incorporated some physics tutors for the people training in the health occupations.

Guy pointed out that “if students indicate a need, then we will address specific areas.” For example, time-management and stress anxiety are among the issues for which he has provided assistance in the past.

“Our goal is to get to students sooner rather than later, before they get too far behind,” said Guy. He added that the faculty may refer students who are unaware of the service, or even stop by themselves to lend a hand.

Housed in what used to be a computer lab, the Academic Success Center is on the first floor of the main building, across the hall from the Broadway Street entrance. Students should check the bulletin board just outside the center for the hours when tutors are on hand for specific subjects, and walk right in.

Anyone who wants to be a student tutor can either e-mail Guy at dguy1@kent.edu or go to the center and speak with him.
