SALEM -- It’s not too late to sign up for CERT (Community Emergency Response Training) sponsored by the Columbiana County Emergency Management Agency. Learn what to do when accidents, fires and natural disasters occur. Find out how to do your part to be prepared for the worst.
Participants will receive backpacks full of useful items, including first aid and a hardhat, along with their certificates of completion. “The entire program is absolutely free” said Salem Campus SGO President Lucian Clewell. “There is no cost whatsoever.”
He added that someone does not have to be a student to join. Any adult in the community can take part in the events in the Kent State Salem auditorium from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Nov. 9 and Nov. 16.
Those interested in becoming emergency responders can drop by the SGO office in the vending lounge or visit the front desk at the university and leave a name, phone number and street and e-mail addresses with Lisa Curran. The deadline is Nov. 7.
Among other events at KSU-Salem is a 50/50 raffle worth more than $200 that continues to grow. Money raised is put into an SGO account to benefit the entire student body.
“Even if you don’t have a winning ticket, everybody wins,” said Clewell. The lucky winner who will receive the other half of the accumulated funds will be announced at 4 p.m. on Oct. 31.
