Coffee shop will add new dimension to campus life

by Amanda Webb
EAST LIVERPOOL — On the corner of Fifth and Washington streets downtown, Dave Marshall’s new coffee shop should provide another level of diverse and exciting activities for local KSU students. If all goes well, the shop will be open for business in early to mid October.

For local bands and solo artists, poetry lovers and film buffs, the coffee shop will be available for local entertainment and KSU student-inspired events. It will also feature wireless Internet access for laptop users.

Returning to his East Liverpool roots, Marshall said he wants to cater to the local college community with the venture. Speaking of the promising artistic environment the coffee shop could provide to the community, Marshall said, “This is all about the arts. We need to expand as people.”

Although Dave and Shirley Marshall purchased the Ogilvie’s Department Store building in 2004, the renovation work intensified in July 2006. Marshall’s son, Sean, was the one who envisioned converting the space into a mini-mall. Plans for a bakery, photography studio, beauty salon, and ceramic pottery shop are prospects for the spacious building.

Marshall used the services of a professional Feng Shui consultant to approach the design and layout of the coffee shop. Feng Shui is a practice of design placement and arrangement to achieve harmony with the universe. Works from artist Burton Morris have been incorporated in the decor to provide even more aesthetic appeal.

An East Liverpool native, Marshall worked on the Apollo space program for five years and has achieved moderate success in real estate. He is also a certified hypnotherapist and master Reiki healer.
