KENT -- The KSU Flashes beat the pants off the Miami Redhawks 29-19 Friday while Salem's Student Goverment Organization (SGO) and East Liverpool's Council of Student Organizations (CoSO) watched from their VIP loge.
"We kicked their butt the whole time, and it was rough out there. There were ridiculous tackles. That's how you play football," said SGO member Heather Grunden.
East Liverpool's David Estell provided a summary of the action: "The Golden Flashes took the lead in the 1st quarter after Miami scored a first drive touchdown. Kent took to the run game, its high paced level led the Flashes passed the Red Hawks and they never looked back. The Red Hawks tried to catch-up in the remaining minutes of the fourth quarter but the Golden defense of the Flashes stepped up and caught an interception that led to a running of the clock to end the game!"
CoSO President Jordan Steele said, "They [Redhawks] didn't have a chance."
Grunden said that the Redhawks had one brief comeback, but the best part of the whole game was when the Redhawks turned over the ball on a punt and Kent ran the entire field, finishing out with a touchdown.
SGO President Evie Spence said, "Thank goodness for the loge, because it rained for the whole game! We all had a great time and I want to say thank you."
Spence said that the trip's expenses were paid, including refreshments, pizza and the tickets with box seating.
The trip is just one of the perks enjoyed by those who give their time to lead the student body and represent its interestes to the university.
