SALEM -- The two Columbiana County KSU football teams will play an inter-campus game Oct. 2 from 2 - 4 p.m., with practice on location for the Salem team from 12 - 2 p.m.
Chuck Schaffer, head of maintenance in Salem, said that he must make some perfunctory, courtesy phone calls to the Salem Soccer League for their permission. The league is a guest of the university, and is the entity that cleared and maintains the field. In return, youth soccer players use KSU property for soccer games and practice.
"There usually isn't soccer played on Friday anyway because the parents want to go to the varsity football games at Salem High School," Shaffer said. He doesn't expect a conflict to arise over the field.
Adam Dopp, Salem defense captain, said that the team members would like to see this continue as a weekly occurence. "It's a league thing," he said. The plan is for the two teams to alternate locations between Salem and East Liverpool, regardless of who wins, according to Dopp.
Salem has 17 players on the team in comparison with East Liverpool's 18 players.
