SALEM -- Student Government Organization (SGO) President Evie Spence wants to fill a vacancy in her cabinet.
Spence explained that in addition to the elected posts, there are also important positions that are nominated and voted upon by the elected members. They are communications officer, historian, and web officer.
The opening is for communications officer, who is a liaison between the student body and the SGO. The officer works closely with the secretary keeping additional records about the entity's activities, and releases messages to the student body and to the press. Email Spence at espence99@yahoo.com or inquire at the SGO office in the vending lounge to offer your name for consideration.
For those who were absent last spring, the results of the SGO election are: Evie Spence, president; Suzy Merryman, vice-president; Ashley Gilbert, secretary; and Sarah Henry, treasurer.
In other student government news, Spence announced that no club has responded yet with the paperwork that will enable its recognition by the university. She explained that she didn't set a deadline for the applications because she didn't want to alienate any club, she knows that the ball needs to get rolling sooner rather than later.
"A club, after official recognition, can petition the SGO for funds from the state allocated account that it controls," Spence said. The state money is not indispensible, and is doled on a first come, first serve basis, until its gone.
