EAST LIVERPOOL - Member and future president of the East Liverpool Calcutta Area Garden Club, Lita Hutchison, wants to "spread the word" about the photography contest the group sponsors.
The deadline for submissions is August 31. Hutchison encourages last minute entries to make the first year for this contest a great one.
The five categories are: pictures of flowers; pictures of flowers featuring people; pictures of flowers with animals of insects; photos of flowers involving extreme manipulation; photos by youths under the age 15. Judges will decide the winner of a sixth categoy, people's choice, from the best of the first five categories.
First place winners get $100, second place gets $50, and the third place gets $25. The best people's choice category photo will earn the artist a separate $75 prize. The winning entries will be on display at the YMCA, gallery-style, during the month of Oct.

"The odds of winning are 1 in 17, given the number of entries we have right now," Hutchison said, "And I think that's pretty good."
