KSU-Salem Bustles with Week-long Party

SALEM -- Kristen Toothman, director of student enrollment, announced plans for "March Madness Week" and the student appreciation events the university is sponsoring. Also, this week is the deadline for student government nomination forms, Toothman said.

Monday is "Flapjack Frenzy" in the Student Lounge. Everybody can have free pancakes and juice at 8:30 a.m., but only until the limited supply is gone.

The St. Patrick's Day Party is Tuesday, and five different local pizza shops, Mario’s, East of Chicago, Alfredo’s, Pizza Hut and Pizza Joes, will convene to compete in Pizzapalooza. Students get a vote for their favorite kind with every 75 cent slice they buy. There will be music, games, and some mysterious, "green" giveaway prizes. Be there between to 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. to enjoy.

The great Cornhole Event is going down on Wednesday, Mar. 18 and 19 from noon to 1 p.m. in the Student Lounge, and afterward, Lilith Kunkel, library director, has slated the Kent State Salem Library Book Sale from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., and also on Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Anyone can donate books, textbooks withstanding, and Honors Club volunteers will be there to help. Paperbacks are a quater and hardbacks are 50 cents.

At 5 p.m. Thursday, a limited supply of free munchies will be handed out in the Student Lounge and everyone is invited to watch the NCCA game there.

On Friday, Mar. 20, again the NCAA game is shown in the lounge, but students can select the most first and second round winners and win prizes. The reception desk will provide bracket sheets, but please limit one entry per person. Staff will announce the winners on Mar. 23.

Those interested in becoming a part of the Student Government Organization (SGO) for the 2009-10 academic year must complete and file their nomination forms by Friday, Mar. 20. The person elected President will get a $1000 scholarship, and those filling positions of Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer will enjoy $250 vouchers to the KSU Bookstore. the positions of Historian and Communications Office also need filling.
