27th annual Turkey Trot a success

by Kara Lockhart-Milan
EAST LIVERPOOL - The 27th annual East Liverpool Potter Wrestling Turkey Trot was held on Thanksgiving morning. This year the Potter wrestling family was joined by former wrestlers and coaches, the Potter Mites, ELHS cross-country team members, girls basketball players and other community members in the annual trek from Beaver Local to Oak Glen territory.

The East Liverpool Police Department provided escort for the entire route. The Turkey Trot tradition was established nearly three decades ago by former wrestling coach Dr. Nick Trombetta. Runners start on Beaver Local soil at the Oakmont Plaza and travel down St. Clair to Avondale, to Walnut, then across the Jennings Randolph Bridge to Chester, W.Va.

Some of the original participants still run in the even each year. With that kind of loyalty, the "Trot" is likely to continue for many more years.
