SALEM -- The results of the emergency election are in. Lucian Clewell is now president of the Student Government Organization (SGO), and his Vice-President is Christina Brown.
Because the two seats were vacated by the officers who had been elected last spring, the remaining SGO members decided to hold another election to replace the openings in a fair and democratic way. Clewell ran against Evelynn "Evie" Spence and Caleb Englert, and Brown competed with Charles Miller.
When all votes for president and vice-president had been cast by students, a group of four people counted them Nov. 6. The counters were Brad Heckathorn, Lisa Curran, Kristin Toothman, and Christine Darin.
Heckathorn said that they separated the votes into groups by person and counted them, "one person at a time, with someone checking to make sure the count was right." The entire ordeal took one and a half hours.
Exact numbers won by each candidate are not available at this time.
