SALEM - Prominent community leaders met for breakfast with students faculty and staff Oct. 3 to celebrate the new Health and Sciences wing that is crucial to the expansion of the medical training programs.
KSU has taken steps to expand the Nursing and Radiology programs to keep up with the rise in enrollment numbers. What is now the gymnasium is slated for conversion into an $8 million dollar renovation that will create a two story educational learning space.
Howard Rolhleder, CEO of Salem Community Hospital, said,"KSU Salem has always provided my hospital with a high quality staff over the years."
He also spoke to the audience about how his establishment has never experienced a nursing shortage, unlike other hospitals. He mentioned that when the baby boomers begin to retire, the demand for quality nurses will increase.
Dean Jeff Nolte expressed his pleasure to be a part of a learning institution that will "serve as an economic catalyst for the region." He related some statistics, including how 100 percent of radiology students fromSalem passed the state competency licensing exams and 94 percent of the nursing students.
"This expansion will make Salem and the surrounding region a better place to live, work, and raise a family," Nolte said.
