EAST LIVERPOOL - The “Today Recycle at Columbiana Kent State” (T.R.A.C.K.S) program kicked off with a presentation today on the first floor of the Main Building.

Henry Trenkelbach, business manager at KSU-EL, who helped initiate the T.R.A.C.K.S efforts, spoke first, touching on the subject of the recycling awareness. He said that the program started when the Columbiana County campuses received a $15,000 grant from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

The T.R.A.C.K.S program has three primary goals: to increase recycling awareness in the campus and community; to establish multiple recycling centers throughout these two regional campuses; and to work with a local curbside recycling program that reduces the work hours needed to separate recyclable materials by campus and city workers.

If, and when, these goals become accomplishments, it is hoped that smaller college campuses throughout Ohio will adopt this program, too.

Ryan Estell, the East Liverpool City Safety Service director was also present to discuss the city’s involvement with the T.R.A.C.K.S program. Bob Allgood, Roxanne Burns, Sarah Motts and the Environmental Club all had a part in making the start of the T.R.A.C.K.S program a success. Mayor Jim Swoger also attended this presentation.

After discussion, students and staff enjoyed free hot dogs, apples, and cider.
