EL campus updates Main Building

By Melody Gustafson

EAST LIVERPOOL – Students at KSU-EL may have noticed the new colorful carpet and lighting on the first floor of the Main Building this fall. There are even more cosmetic updates scheduled for the coming academic year according to Henry Trenkelbach, business manager for both Columbiana County campuses.

The two adjacent rooms 116 and the Academic Center, 117, will have new carpet and paint, and “flesh mounted” lighting, meaning that it will fit into the ceiling instead of suspending from it as it does now. Also, there will be new HVC units to replace the noisy ones currently in use. The university will install an extra doorway on room 116 to increase the capacity of students allowed in the room while adhering to state code for exits.

After final exams at the conclusion of the fall 2008 semester, the remodeling on the library, academic center, and room 116 will begin. “I hope it will be done by the time classes resume in January,” Trenkelbach said.

On the second floor, the Blair Memorial Library is lined up for new carpet, paint, and a front desk unit; the work will also take place during the winter break.

The bookstore on the second floor will begin receiving a facelift the week of Sept. 29. Legacy Commercial Flooring will install new carpet, but first they will bring in laborers to remove a minor amount of asbestos under the current flooring.

Trenkelbach briefly explained the process: “They wet it down with water so the fibers don’t escape, dismantle it and then we will evaluate the condition of the subfloor before installing.” He plans for completion of the project by the end of the week of Oct. 6.
