Dean Sponsors Earth Day Conference

EAST LIVERPOOL - KSU-EL Dean Jeff Nolte and the Office of Regional Campuses is sponsoring the 2008 Earth Day Environmental Justice Conference on Saturday, April 19 in the Slak Shak.

Dr. Thomas Shevory, Chair of the Political Science Department at Ithaca College and author of Toxic Burn: The Grassroots Struggle Against the WTI Incinerator, will speak at 10:15 a.m. about his book, his research and other environmental projects.

Award-winning poet LuAnn Keener-Mikenas will present at 11:30 some of her work that has been increasingly concerned with the environmental crisis and humanity's relationship with the natural world.

Lauraine Breda, one of the founders of R.E.A.C.H. (Regional Environmental Alliance for Community Health), will speak at 1:45 p.m. about her role in successfully spreading awareness and creating interagency cooperation to empower families and communities to effect state and federal policy changes.

Ass. Dean Dr. Richard Wiscott will partner with Becky Varian for "Kent to Community: Collaboration and Caring", a discussion about campus involvement in creating bonds with the community through gardens and food production, among other topics.

A continental breakfast and lunch will be provided. Earth-friendly products, groups representing earth-friendly services, and CD's by environmental groups will be available.
