EAST LIVERPOOL – The home built by pottery owner Homer Laughlin, most recently an infamous downtown night club, is slated for demolition today.
According to Henry Trenkelbach, business administrator for both the KSU Salem and East Liverpool campuses, the university reached an agreement with the owner, Jack DeSarro, to purchase the property for $89,000 after the building is removed at his expense. The deal has been approved by the Kent campus, and closing will take place after the demolition is complete.
Xtreme Klean will begin tearing down the old structure this morning and is projected to continue removing the debris until Sunday evening. KSU will close the parking lot adjacent to the jobsite Saturday and Sunday.
“The property will probably remain idle until summertime, and then we’ll try to get the area converted into a parking space,” said Trenkelbach. He did mention that he may consider other possible uses for the spot, but at this time people desire additional parking.
