OVRAC art show tonight

WHAT: Reception for painter Elizabeth Babb

EAST LIVERPOOL -- The Ohio Valley Regional Arts Council opens its winter season at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Kent State East Liverpool’s Mary Patterson Gallery with a reception for Salem painter Elizabeth Babb. All OVRAC events are free and open to the public.


Currently an adjunct professor of art at the KSU East Liverpool Campus, Babb has been working as an artist for over 30 years. She began her career at age 13, when she apprenticed with sculptor Glen Michaels. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Kent State University in 1988 and a master's degree from Temple University’s Tyler School of Art in 1993. She also studied in Rome, Italy.


Babb has won several awards and has 40 exhibits on her résumé, including shows at the Organization of Independent Artists in New York City, the Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown, and most recently at Cuyahoga Community College. Her paintings are in private collections in Europe and across the United States.


The Mary Patterson Gallery is located on the second floor of the Mary Patterson Memorial, 213 East Fourth Street, downtown. Thursday's reception runs from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Regular gallery hours are Monday, Wednesday, Friday noon - 2 p.m. and Thursday 6 - 8 p.m.
